At 11:11 am on 1 November 2006, the folks at WorldChanging attempted to hack the Amazon.com bestseller list: “Amazon, you see, ranks books based on their sales over the previous 24 hours. This means that it is possible, through coordinated action, to hack the system by getting a large number of people to buy the book at the same time.” (Though it doesn’t seem like they made it to #1, they might have gotten anywhere from #9 to #12, but still, fascinating idea.)
